Role of this station

Tanger Ville is a genuine crossroads: the gateway to Morocco for travellers arriving from Europe via Tanger Med, and the switching point between the national network and exploration of the Rif Mountains and the Mediterranean coast.

Continuing your journey by car from this station

Hiring a car makes complete sense if you are planning a trip combining Tangier with excursions into the hinterland (Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Cap Spartel or the Mediterranean coast). It is also ideal if you are travelling in a group or with a lot of luggage.

Urban and regional connections

Tanger Ville is designed to make fast transfers easy — whether to the different neighbourhoods of the modern city or to the gates of the old town. Major road arteries are readily accessible for setting off on a regional journey.

What mobility strategy works best here?

Tailor your approach to your itinerary. If you are staying in the historic quarters, hold off on the rental. If you are heading out to explore the region, collecting your car at this multimodal hub will make your logistics considerably simpler.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get to the medina from Tanger Ville?
10–15 minutes by petit taxi (20–40 MAD) or a 25-minute walk along the bay. Avoid driving if you are staying in the medina — access is restricted and parking is very difficult.
Can you get to Chefchaouen from Tanger Ville?
Yes, by CTM/Supratours bus from the nearby bus station (~2h, 50 MAD), or by car in about 2h15. There is no rail link — the train does not serve Chefchaouen.
Are Tanger Ville and Tanger Med the same station?
No. Tanger Ville is the passenger railway station in the city centre. Tanger Med is the ferry port (passengers and freight), located 40 km to the east, with its own railway station connecting the port to the city.
