From Tetouan Sania Ramel Airport (TTU), Chefchaouen is the quickest gateway into the Rif. The road leaves the coastal plain and climbs into the mountains: expect around an hour in normal conditions.
The options
- Rental car: the most flexible. You can stop on the way and continue to the coast or on to Fes afterwards.
- Shared (grand) taxi: available from Tetouan town; the fare is agreed up front and depends on passenger numbers.
- Bus: scheduled services leave from Tetouan bus station, not the airport, so you need a first leg into town.
Practical advice
The mountain road has tight bends and little lighting: aim to arrive in daylight, especially if this is your first time driving in Morocco. In Chefchaouen the medina is pedestrian — park on the edge and walk in.
If Chefchaouen is only a stop, the natural next legs are Fes or Tangier; see our route pages to compare train, bus and car.
